Sliding headstock lathes

In a sliding headstock lathe, the longitudinal feed is not carried out through the tool but through the material (main spindle) itself, giving the workpiece both efficient feed and cutting speed. The clamping system and adjacent guide bush feeds the material bar into the working space of the CNC lathe. Ideally this is carried out fully automatically by a loading magazine or bar loading magazine from FMB, the market leader in this area. FMB loading systems are robust and designed to be low-maintenance. The guide system for the rotating material bars (round materials) in the transfer between loading magazine and lathe is called the steady. The material bars are stored within the loading magazine in an oil-flushed guide channel (hydrodynamic bearing effect). The material is pushed through the steady by means of the feed device in the main spindle of the lathe. This is where the collet is fixed. During the turning process, the synchronizing device transfers the feed motion of the main spindle to the feed device of the loading magazine to prevent the material bar from being pulled out of the clamping sleeve or clamping mandrel. Residual material left over from the machining process is separated out by the remnant flap of the loading magazine.
