Material bar

A material bar is a bar-shaped semifinished product with a rounded, polygonal or profiled cross-section. It is processed by a CNC lathe to become a tool part. In order to ensure a constant flow of materials these semifinished products are delivered to the machine by a material flow system. In the machining sector this is carried out by a loading magazine or bar loading magazine, which may be attached directly to a short-turning lathe. Long-turning lathes may also be served by a system of this kind. FMB Maschinenbau specialises in the construction of innovative loading magazines. These are used worldwide with single-spindle lathes, and in a specially designed form with multi-spindle lathes. The material bar is first deposited on the material storage facility of the loading magazine.

A bundle loader may be fitted as an option. The loading magazine can also be filled using a bar lift. From here, the material bar is transferred to the guide channel, which in the case of magazines for machining long bars is flushed with oil (hydrodynamic bearing effect). From here it is is conveyed via the steady to the lathe’s spindle stock with collet. Remnant pieces are removed by the remnant flap of a loading magazine.
